Although our Vavuniya UC is functioning with the aim of development and public service to general public under the units of Administration, Finance, Technology, Health etc., Above all, It provides a very important service which goes directly to general public.<\/p>\n

As Vavuniya is an important central city which joins other districts to Northern Province, put forward proposals for important needs of Vavuniya UC. Those needs were accepted and a Fire Engine, Ambulance and a Water Bowser were given to UC by Provincial Council and Local Government. Though this material needs are fulfilled, there are no special building and Fire brigade for this Fire Engine. There are two ordinary drivers and UC labors function as Fire brigade.<\/p>\n

FIRE PREVENTION<\/h3>\n

  • Carrying out inspections of the premises which are listed under offensive trades.<\/li>\n
  • Stipulating fire safety requirements for proposed buildings.<\/li>\n
  • Upgrading fire regulations.<\/li>\n
  • Organizing fire & evacuation drills especially in high-rise buildings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    ROLE OF THE FIRE SERVICE<\/h3>\n

    • Ensure life safety in any kind of disaster.<\/li>\n
    • Prevent and \/or mitigate damages due to fire and other related causes.<\/li>\n
    • Protect the environment from adverse effects of fire, chemical and other related disasters.<\/li>\n
    • Dealing with humanitarian issues where necessary.<\/li>\n
    • Improve the fire safety awareness of community.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
